This Creator Uses a ‘Digital Assistant’ to Avoid Burnout (And It’s Not What You Think)

You’d be forgiven for thinking this is just another post about an AI assistant. But it’s not. Instead, it’s about a creator who uses Email Automations from Bio Sites to connect with her audience, without being glued to her inbox.

Meet Alyssa—the founder of NewLifestyle, a platform for climate education. Like many sustainability creators, she faces a familiar paradox: How can you encourage people to buy what you’re selling, when you’re all about encouraging people to consume less?

Here, we speak with Alyssa about making money in a way that’s sustainable for her, her audience, and the planet.

Alyssa, tell us about NewLifestyle—where did the idea come from?

NewLifestyle started in 2020 as a way to document my journey to a more sustainable way of living. It quickly grew beyond just sharing waste-reduction tips and now covers everything from climate education and video essays to thrifting and conscious consumption. Community is at the very core of what I do. My mission is to help people build habits and mindset shifts that positively impact their lives, the planet, and their local communities.

How do you monetize a mission of consuming less?

When your content advises people not to buy things, monetization can feel uncertain. I’ve always been drawn to digital products because they don't produce waste and can positively impact people. Before I sell anything, I make sure it aligns with my core mission: Does this help someone live more sustainably or deepen their connection with their community? If I can check those boxes, I feel great about it.

What role does your Bio Site play in your business?

My Bio Site started as a simple page for links, but it has evolved alongside my brand. Today, it hosts my digital products (like the Green Living Tracker) and a 1:1 appointments calendar where clients can book a content strategy audit with me. It’s also where I build my automated email sequences, which are a huge unblocker for me. My Bio Site is the bridge between what I post, and what I sell. If video content is the entrée, my Bio Site is the side dish to every meal.

You called Bio Sites’ Email Automation a huge "unblocker." Why?

I want to check in with everyone who buys a product from me to see how they feel, get their feedback, and let them know how my offerings can work together. That level of personal follow-up feels impossible to do alone. Email flows are like my personal assistants, helping me foster that connection after a purchase without feeling overwhelmed.

How does an automated email journey work in practice? Can you give us an example?

Absolutely. Let’s say someone watches a video of mine about thrifting (like this one) and decides to buy my “30 days to a more sustainable you” ebook.

Two weeks later, my 'assistant' automatically sends a follow-up email to pitch the Green Living Tracker. This isn’t just a mindless upsell—it’s a tool that helps those who are just starting out to maintain the momentum they’re building with the 30 day challenge, guiding them towards the habits and mindset shifts they’re looking for.

What's your strategy for driving traffic to your Bio Site?

I aim to drive traffic to my Bio Site a minimum of 2–3 times a week. YouTube is one of my most effective channels. Long-form content attracts a highly dedicated audience that wants to learn more and support your work. When videos don't have a sponsor, I use my sponsorship slot in the first 5 minutes of the video to talk about my product offerings and link my Bio Site in the video description.

Finally, what advice would you give creators looking to monetize?

  1. My advice is to stop planning and start doing. You can get stuck in a trap of watching tutorials and writing down ideas without ever acting on them. Nothing changes until you take that first step. The truth is, there's always room for you and your ideas.

  2. You don’t have to do it all. And it doesn’t have to be complicated. Use the tools that are out there to make life easier for yourself.

Alyssa is one of many creators using Bio Sites to create new income streams. You can do the same.
